Toque Macaque (Macaca sinica) is a primate mammal in the Cercopithecidae family on monkeys, including the Baboon, Mandrill, Colobus, Vervet, and Macaque.
The Toque Macaque has reddish-brown hair and a white belly. It has a tuft of hair on the crown of its head. It has a hairless face that becomes pink as it ages. Its long tail has a black tuft of hair at its tip.
It grows to 42-61 centimetres (16-24 inches) in length. Its tail measures about 40-60 centimetres (16-24 inches) long. It is the smallest of the Macaque species but it has the longest tail of any Macaque species.
The Toque Macaque is native to Sri Lanka. It prefers rain forests. It is a good climber and lives most of the time in trees – therefore it is arboreal.
It is diurnal, active during the day. It feeds on fruit, leaves, buds, insects, and small animals. Its predator is the Leopard.
It lives in social groups of 8-40 individuals.
The female Toque Macaque is pregnant for about 5-6 months, before giving birth to one live young. The baby holds onto its mother for the first two months.
Its life expectancy in the wild is about 20 years.
