What does the nose of a mammal look like?

A human is a mammal. A human’s nose has two nostrils, or nose holes, which enables air to enter the nose and lungs so that it can breathe. All mammals have noses with two nostrils.

The nose can be small or large, flat or pointed, wide or narrow. 

The nostrils are usually round, but they can be oval or long slits. The nostrils can be close together or far apart, in the front or on the side. The nostrils are always horizontally side-by-side (and not vertically up-and-down).
