Tippler Pigeon

The Tippler Pigeon (Columba livia) is a medium-sized game bird in the Columbidae family of doves and pigeons. It evolved from the Rock Pigeon.

The Tippler Pigeon has a variety of colours, with flecked markings and dark tail feathers and wing feathers. It is slender and not as plump as the Rock Pigeon. Its eyes are orange or red. Its beak is grey-black with a white cere. Its feet are pinkish-red.

Himalayan Griffon

The Himalayan Griffon (Gyps himalayensis) is a large bird of prey, a raptor, and an accipiter. It is a vulture. It is also known as the Himalayan Griffon Vulture. It is related to the Eurasian Griffon (Gyps fulvus). 

The Himalayan Griffon has a long, spiky, pale-brown ruff around its neck with white streaks. Its head has pale blue skin, covered with soft, yellowish down feathers. Its underside and underwings are pale-brown or buff-coloured. Its legs are feathered, and its feet can be greenish-grey to white. Its upperbody is pale and unstreaked with contrasting dark-brown wings. It has a grey, hooked beak, and small, orange-brown eyes.

Golden Jackal

The Golden Jackal (Canis aureus aureus) is a canid wolf-like mammal in the Canidae family. It is also called the Persian Jackal. It is related to the Coyote (Canis latrans) and the Grey Wolf (Canis lupus). 

The Golden Jackal can vary in colour from pale-yellow to dark-beige. Its underbelly is pale brown to pale grey. It has large pointed ears and a pointed snout (nose). It has pale legs.

Pallas’s Gull

The Pallas’s Gull (Ichthyaetus ichthyaetus) is a sea bird in the seagull family. It is also known as the Great Black-Headed Gull.

The Pallas’s Gull is white with a black head. It has grey wings and a grey back, with white ‘mirrors’ at the wing tips. Its legs are yellow, with webbed feet. Its beak is orange-yellow with a red tip. Its eyes are small and dark.

The Southern Crested Caracara (Caracara planacus) is a large bird of prey and a raptor in the Falconidae family of falcons. It is a falconid.

The Southern Crested Caracara has dark-brownish cap, belly, wings, and tail tip. Its throat and the back of its neck are whitish-buff, with dark-brownish bars on its chest, neck, back, and tail. It has large brown eyes with a reddish-orange eye-ring. Its cere is reddish-orange and its beak is beige and hooked. Its legs are yellow.

Bearded Vulture

The Bearded Vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) is a large bird of prey, an accipiter, and a raptor. It is closely related to the Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus).

The Bearded Vulture is dark-grey, rusty, and white. It is grey-blue to grey-black along its back with a cream-coloured forehead and orange-rust feathers on its head, chest, and legs. Its tail and wings are grey. It has black bands across its eyes. It has chin bristles that look like a beard. It has a small, feathered head with a powerful neck, long narrow wings, and a long, wedge-shaped tail. It has sharp talons (claws). When it walks, its gait appears like a waddling duck. It has bright red eye-rings.

CREATURE FEATURE: Wolverine

The Wolverine (Gulo gulo) is a carnivorous mammal in the Mustelidae family It is a mustelid. Gulomeans ‘glutton’ in Latin. It is also known as the Glutton, Carajou, Skunk Bear, or Quickhatch. It is not a wolf and it is not a skunk and it is not a bear. It is closely related to the Weasel.

The Wolverine looks like a small bear. It is stocky and muscular, with thick, oily blackish-grey fur that is naturally frost resistant (hydrophobic). Its face has a light-silver mask. It has small eyes, and short, rounded ears.  It has short legs and wide paws that act like snow-shoes. It has sharp claws. Its tail is bushy.

Antarctic Glyptonotus

The Antarctic Glyptonotus (Glyptonotus antarcticus) is a giant marine (saltwater) isopod crustacean. A crustacean includes crabs, shrimps, and lobsters. 

The Antarctic Glyptonotus has a disc-shaped body with small outgrowths of hairs and knobbly scales. It has two pairs of compound eyes; one pair of eyes on its back and a smaller pair of eyes on its side. It has three pairs of front claws and eight legs.

It swims upside down.

Striped Hyena

The Striped Hyena (Hyaena hyaena) is a viverrid mammal.

The Striped Hyena has brown-grey coarse long fur, shorter in summer, with four dark vertical stripes and rows of spots along its sides. It has a mane of hair running along its back. It has a strong body with short legs. Its hind legs (back legs) are shorter than its fore legs (front legs), which makes its back slope downwards.

It has a large head with small dark eyes and a dark grey-brown nose. It has large black pointed ears. It has a short black-tipped tail. It has extremely strong jaws.

Red Fox

The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) is a common and widespread mammal.

The Red Fox has reddish fur with yellow tints. Its winter fur is dense, long, soft, and silky. It sides are lighter than its back and its chin, lower lips, throat and front of the chest are white. The tip of its fluffy tail is white. It has a long body, long narrow head, and short legs. Its front paws have five toes and its back paws have four toes. Each toe has a strong claw. It has oval-shaped pupils with excellent vision.

King Vulture

The King Vulture (Sarcoramphus papa) is a large bird of prey, and a raptor.

The King Vulture has white and black feathers, with a grey to black ruff (collar) around its neck. It also has grey flight feathers and grey tail feathers. Its head and neck are bald, with the skin colour varying from yellow, orange, blue, and purple to red. It has a distinctive orange fleshy carbuncle on its hooked reddish beak. It has white eyes with a red eye-ring. It does not have eyelashes. It has grey legs with long grey claws.

Egyptian Vulture

The Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus percnopterus) is a large bird of prey, and a raptor. It is also called the White Scavenger Vulture or the Pharaoh’s Chicken.

The Egyptian Vulture is white with long neck feathers that form a hackle (raised feathers). Its wings are pointed and its tail is wedge-shaped. It has a yellow face without feathers, a long beak with a long, horizontal nostril, a dark grey-tipped hooked beak, and dark eyes. Its legs are pink with long, straight, sharp talons. Its third and fourth toes are slightly webbed.

Indian Rock Pigeon

The Indian Rock Pigeon (Columba livia intermedia) is a medium-sized game bird. It is also called the Indian Rock Dove.

The Indian Rock Pigeon has a pale grey back and wings, with two black bars on each wing. It has a dark bluish-grey head, neck, and chest, with an iridescent greenish-purple neck and wing feathers. Its eyes are orange, red, or golden, with a blue-grey eye-ring. Its beak is grey-black with a white cere. Its feet are purplish-red. Its tail has a black band. Male and female Indian Rock Pigeons are similar, but the female has less iridescence on her neck.

The Spotted Hyena (Crocuta crocuta) is a scavenging carnivorous African mammal. It has one of the strongest bite strengths of any mammal due to its strong jaws.

A dog, for example, such as a Mastiff or Rottweiler, has an average bite strength of 325 pounds per square inch. An African Lion has a bite strength of 650 pounds per square inch. A Bengal Tiger has a bite strength of 1,050 pounds per square inch. The Spotted Hyena has a bite strength of 1,100 pounds per square inch.

A Great White Shark has an average bite strength of 625 pounds per square inch. A Hippopotamus has an average bite strength of 1,825 pounds per square inch. The animal with the strongest bite strength is the crocodile at 3,700 pounds per square inch.

Caspian Gull

The Caspian Gull (Larus cachinnans) is a medium-sized bird, a seagull related to the European Herring Gull. Cachinnans means laughing.

The Caspian Gull has a mainly creamy-coloured body with a brown-grey flecked back and wings. It has a sloping forehead and a long yellow-brown beak tipped with brown-black. Its eyes are small and dark. It has yellowish legs with webbed feet.
