What does crenulated mean?

What does crenulated mean?

An animal’s crenulated tooth, fin, wing, or other body part has a scalloped or notched edge or margin.

The scalloped or notched margin is usually narrow.

Many dinosaurs had crenulated teeth. There are not many animals with crenulated teeth any more.

The European Scallop (Pecten maximus) is a bivalve mollusc with notched edges on its shell. The earliest known records of true scallops, with a ctenolium, were found in the Triassic period of dinosaurs, over 200 million years ago.

There are many butterflies with crenulated, or scalloped-shaped wings, such as the Comma Butterfly (Polygonia c-album).
