What is an apex predator? 

An apex predator, or alpha predator, is an animal with no natural predators hunting it. It is the largest and most dominant animal in its habitat.

An apex predator is usually a large animal. Apex means top, and alpha means number one. 

An apex predator includes the shark and whale in the ocean, and land animals such as the alligator, bear, leopard, lion, and tiger.
