Monkey Grasshopper

The Monkey Grasshopper (Erianthus versicolor) is an insect related to the cricket.

The male Monkey Grasshopper is green with black markings, whereas the female is green all over. It has large hind legs (back legs) and short antennae. It can jump up to 20 times its body length.

It measures 2-3 centimetres (1 inch) long.

The Monkey Grasshopper is native to southeast Asia, in countries such as India, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. It prefers tropical forests.

It eats algae, fern leaves, and gymnosperms.
