What are Africa’s ‘Big Five’ animals?
Africa’s Big Five animals were originally the five animals that big-game hunters believed were the most difficult to hunt on foot. Nowadays, the five animals are the animals that tourists want to see and photograph. They are all land mammals.

- African Cape Buffalo (Syncerus caffer caffer)
- African Elephant (Loxodonta africana)
- Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) or White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum)
- Leopard (Panthera pardus)
- Lion (Panthera leo)
