The grub pupates and turns into a moth. The moths include the Cossid Moth (Endoxyla leucomochla) and the Ghost Moths (Hepialidae).

The grub, the larva, grows to about 60 centimetres (24 inches) long.

The larva feeds on the roots of eucalyptus trees, such as the River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis).
