Home Range and Territory

What is the difference between an animal’s home range and its territory?

Home range is the area where an animal roams or wanders about. It can be small or large (for migratory animals). The home range is not defended.

Territory is part of the land that lies within the home range that an individual animal or group of animals does not share with other animals. The territory is defended.
