Purple Grenadier Finch

The Purple Grenadier (Uraeginthus ianthinogaster) is a finch found in dry shrubland in East Africa, from Ethiopia to Kenya to Uganda.

The Purple Grenadier has a red beak and black tail. The male has a cinnamon brown head and neck with a blue mask surrounding the eyes. Its rump is purplish-blue and its underbelly is violet-blue with rufous (reddish-brown) parts.

The female Purple Grenadier is mostly cinnamon brown with white bars on the underbelly and silver-blue eye patches.

The Purple Grenadier ia bout 13 centimetres (5 inches) tall.
