Forked tongue

Many reptiles, such as snakes and lizards, have a forked tongue.

A forked tongue is split into two parts at the tip of the tongue.

A forked tongue enables reptiles to ‘taste’ the air to determine which direction a scent (smell) is coming from.

Hummingbirds also have tongues that are split.
